What books have you found most important in your recovery? 📚 🖋️
As I approach 21 months of sobriety, I’m reading “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks, one that was recommended to me at a few weeks sober (I gave up then as it didn’t resonate, but now I am LOVING IT; it’s exactly what I need).
I started thinking of how these favourite 6 books (amongst many others I’ve read and enjoyed) during my recovery have been perfect at different stages, and I thought I’d share my recommendations with you sober folks:
The Sober Diaries by Clare Pooley
The Unexpected Joy of being Sober by Catherine Gray
I read these two beauties a few months in and WISHED I’d had them a year earlier 😂 – so inspiring for people who are at the start of their sobriety journey.
The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris- recommended by my therapist, this book changed my life. Everyone should read it! Especially if they struggle with anxiety or persistent negative thoughts.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero- uplifting, inspiring, funny, easy to read.
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks- now I’m settled in my sobriety, this is really helping me get my teeth into expanding and changing my career.
Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser- this was a total game changer. I read it before losing them, and it allowed me to navigate the grief of both my grandmother’s and best friend’s deaths in 2018 with relative grace and… just kinda shifted my idea of grief from something horrific to something simultaneously beautiful and painful 💌
Most of these aren’t specifically sobriety-orientated! But support sobriety and personal growth perfectly.
Happy weekend, beautiful sober people! 😘😘😘
